Change.

Its funny how fast kids grow up and how things seem to differ from how you imagine your motherhood will be like. I had always imagine that I would be just like my mother, send the kids to school, go to work, fetch the kids, cook for them and tuck them to bed.

Reality you might ask? I have long working hours, still manage to send my girl to school, cannot make it in time to pick her up, do not have enough time to cook for her and to add on to that, we have officially hired our first helper in the family.

But the funny thing is, 2 days with my new helper, I am pretty glad to have her around. Lil kat likes her, she helps out in the house chores, restores a little sanity to the family. I guess in life, you cant always want things your way. Especially when it comes to parenting, when things normally does not get to the way you want it and you are forced to constantly bend. For the first time in life, I actually find that being forced to change might not be such a bad thing after all.

WTA Finals in Singapore! Woo Hoo!

WTA Finals in Singapore!Cool Bananas!:D

Yea….Daddy Kat and I love to watch tennis…and F1 of course. Having both of these events in Singapore is an awesome deal for us! For our darling Kat, she is way too young to join us for the match so we decided to bring her to the stadium this weekend to check out on the “fan zone”. Something new for the kid, other than the standard shopping mall and playground weekends. Its not a big space that we expected but if you happen to drop by to check out the new Kallang Wave mall, do go over and try to serve top speed at the starhub booth.:) (*ps. It will probably take you just 15-20mins to finish walking this area)

If you dont manage to do it this time, you still have next four years to go:D cant wait for kat to grow up to enjoy the little kid stuff they have here for kids.:)

Kat and her funny self

Home is getting livelier as Kat is now 13 months! The time when your little fella learns v quickly, normally of all the things you wished she did not learn. The time when u wished u had talked more sense and less rubbish. The weird part is, kids alway learn all the rubbish. So let’s cover a little of Kat’s new vocab:

Wow:

one of the first words she learnt. Not a bad word but she has learnt her way to effectively express herself. Eg. She would say wow when I open the fridge.*daddy Kat and I can’t help but to laugh every time she does this.

Oh-oh:

I think daddy Kat has the credit for this word. So now whenever she drops something or purposely throws something away, it is always accompanied by oh-oh

Baobao (carry):

This is best signalled with her hands opened wide, wanting to be carried

Baobao(bread):

1st Baobao in the morning is carry. If she says it again, Baobao would then mean she wants bread

Animal series (say the animal and Kat replies with the sound)

Dog: ouh-ouh

Cow: mmmmm

Lion: rah

Tiger: rah

Rabbit: *pretends to jump*

Fish: bubble

Cat: *giggle*(no longer sure if calling her Kat is a good idea. Now she must think, “why would mummy think that I make the miaow sound “)

Anyways we have also moved on to teach Kat about fruits. It seems to Kat that fruits have a great importance and should have their individual names.

Kat’s identified fruit friends:

1)Nana the banana

2)Ah bu the apple

So yup:)having this little girl start to talk is such a fun activity to have at home…..:)

Little Kat’s First Road Trip

We had our first family road trip the last public holidays to Malaysia to meet up with some friends, meet Daddy Kat’s family to celebrate Kat’s birthday & to take family portraits with our family photographer. WOW~~~were we busy…..>.< but all in all…it was a great trip:) This will be Kat’s 3rd trip overseas and i would suppose after writing this post, i would be qualified to share my checklist of things to bring on my ipad. According to Daddy Kat, I am the most “Kia Si” (Scared to die) mum, so if you follow my list, you will definitely not forget to bring anything, but have your luggage super heavy>.<

But anyways, here is our trip this time (4 day 3 night):

Day 1+2: The trip begin rather smoothly. We had breakfast at the airport where daddy, mummy got their coffee and lil kat got her favorite bun. Arrived at KL on time and living up to the name of being a “Kia Si” mum, we got car rental instead of relying on cabs and public transport. Best decision of my life! Thou we were lost for awhile looking for the avis counter, to have a car when you bring a kid on a trip is the best thing you can get. Then came the nightmare of a 6 hour drive to damai laut (was supposed to be 2hrs)!!!!!! -.- why did i choose Hari Raya holidays>.<

IMAG2756Kat + me in the car

Well, Kat was still quite happy as she nested in the car…if you see the picture>,< we couldnt get a car seat, coz it was all rented out (another hit on why did i choose to travel during raya). *A responsible parent must always think of your kid’s safety, so DONT TRAVEL WITHOUT A CAR SEAT. So we were driving slowly with caution the whole way to damai laut coz of the circumstance. Lil Kat on the other hand, was very happy about the road trip, she slept, and eat and slept and eat the whole 6 hours without complain!*amazed*(normally, she starts wanting to get out of the car in the first 15mins.

We finally reached after a torturous long drive (poor daddy kat), and met up with the Kat’s parents and cousins to celebrate her birthday! How is the hotel? There is only one and i must say that it is not so fantastic>.< The hotel was quite run down and many of the ammenities were not open. BUT! its the company that matters and Daddy, Mummy + Kat really enjoyed the time we spent with the family 🙂 *ps. Kat remembered Grandma:D (im so glad the skype chats paid off).

IMAG2804we just woke up!

Day 3+4: We bidded goodbye to the gramps and made our way down to KL to meet Aaron’s friends. To our surprise, Kat was ok with every single uncle:)! AWESOME! She enjoyed playing with them and i bet its vice versa…hahahah….. It was great that we got to meet our friends and have a chat after so long….

Another exciting thing that i have to mention about was we had our family portraits taken! We got our wedding photographer (which is simply awesome!) and got him to take a set of photos for us while we were there. While i was writing this post, he uploaded the first of the many photos he took of us:) comment? Just the kind of family portrait we wanted. The expression of our happiness and joy with kat!  If you guys are free, you have to drop by his facebook at https://www.facebook.com/alexmoiphotography or website http://www.alexmoi.net/blog/ to take a look at his beautiful works! You are sure to be swooned away!

Kat is 1!

Hi all,

Kat and family has had yet another wonderful adventure. FYI to those that didnt know, Kat is officially a year old! WOOHOO!!!! And this little princess had 3 celebrations, even thou our attempts to make it a small family event. Daddy Kat and I felt that it was not necessary to make it a big one as we were thinking, “might as well save it for when she can invite her little friends”. So I do hope she is looking forward to a big party in the near future. Meantime, we met up with both sides of the family and a additional one coz grandpa could not make it for the noon party:)

Here are some photo throwbacks of the party!

*ps. we also made a trip to KL and Damai Laut recently. Shall update the exciting pics in the next post!

Bali Bali Part 2

Well….this being the 2nd time Daddy and Mummy Kat is in Bali, we already know what we would like and not like to do. So instead of scrambling around like all typical Asian tourists do (no offence but we Asians just do not know how to relax), we were loitering around having high tea at hotel lobby, hanging at the beach with Little Kat, splashing water with Kat at the pool etc. Maybe its because we were not flocking everywhere, we truly felt refreshed after the trip, thou the chores of looking after a 8 months tot was still there.

There were some new discoveries with little Kat over this trip.

1) I love swimming and playing with water.

2) I love bread and munching on them.

I don’t care! You must be there!

Part 2 of sleep when you can. I am not sure when, but Kat recently developed the “I don’t care! You must be there!” Attitude. As daddy Kat names it, “bullying mummy” attitude.

A fine example would be as I write this blog and lil Kat is taking her nap. Her butt is touching my belly to make sure I am there when she sleeps. Removing contact would simply set off an atomic bomb of cries.

Our church routine…..

As far as we can, we always try to bring Kat to church every Sunday. (Well I did mentioned as far as we can….erm erm….gotta work hard on that).

Thou Kat doesn’t know much about what is happening. I think all she has figured so far is 1)yeah!wear nice nice! And 2)yeah!going gai gai. We concluded that a routine for her to get used to would be good. Besides,  can’t wait for her to go to Sunday school with the rest of the little ones at church and learn about GOD together, growing up together….etc…
At the meantime, this is what Kat does on Sundays we go to church(on a good day):
#1 sleep her way to church
#2 listen attentively at church (let me stress again that this is on a good day )
#3 play with her toy after being bored at church
#4 going for lunch with daddy n mummy after church
#5 goes back home for afternoon nap
#6 mummy n daddy goes for beer at night (on a good day)

Achievement unlocked!

The wonders of having little ones at home is that everyday, they learn something new and everyday, you get amazed by them all over again. Lil Kat is on supercharged achievement mode last weekend and just like Mario in the game, she kept collecting gold stars and unlocking achievements. So so proud of this little button!

Achievement 1: sitting (unlocked)
Achievement 2: sit on high chair for a meal (unlocked)

Achievement 3: stand with assistance of mummy (unlocked)

Never Measure

The one thing I have learnt from motherhood is to never measure. And the honest fact is, you can never measure and when you try to, who do you think you are to be measuring. This applies to everything across the board, but especially so for a new mum I find:

For the Mums(my scenario):
You never tried natural birth, you are measured as less of a mum:
It doesn’t matter natural birth or cesarean, you are still a great mum. (It doesn’t make you a better mum just because you can bear the pain for the moment. You can still be a noob mum even if u do natural delivery)
You can’t bring your kid to play group because u have to work:
Doing less in some areas doesn’t make you less of a mum. (Maybe you are just better at other areas.)
You can feed breast milk for 6mths, why don’t you(ppl give you one look):
Feeding less than 6 mths breast milk (according to all guide books, it’s the good time frame) doesn’t mean ur kid is going to grow up not so bright. (Come on’ they will still get sick here n there eventually. You give what you can give, it’s nt a competition. Hello?i was engorged at least 4-5 times?)
You take so long to slim down the belly one, other ppl don’t even look like they were once pregnant(in singlish):
You are just as beautiful as you are. At least that’s how I tell myself.(hey..how pretty do you think you will look if u keep telling yourself that u are not as slim as before or slim down as fast as the model In the mag.hey, u hve a 3kg++ kiddo that came from your tummy…give yourself a break?exercising is nt magic)
Why you don’t consider being a housewife?you won’t be able to spend as much time with ur kid…
Hey. I am not a super career minded person. But I am sure I cannot be a full-time housewife. My aim is to balance both. A working mother does not mean I’m going to dump my kids aside.
Anyways the scenarios are endless… All I wanted to say is that every mum is different. You doing things differently doesn’t mean you are less of a mum, who is anyone to judge u. Also, there is no need to follow the norm, you should be figuring how to bring up ur kid as they go, not force them to become the norm and follow the book. But saying that, kids are still kids, I believe that they still need some discipline here and there.
