our complete family

Yup. It’s been so long that our son has just arrived in this world. He was born 7th Jan at 34 weeks. My waterbag had burst 2 days prior to his birth and Seth and I managed to hangon for another 2 days before a c-sec operation to get him out at 34 weeks.

Like any other c-sec, I left the hospital after 3 nights but little Seth till today, is still in special care. Daddy and I are having our fingers and toes crossed for him to be able to get out of hospital tmr.

I have been running in and out of hospital everyday to bring Seth milk, visit him and cuddle him whenever possible. I’m now on the cab home from yet another day’s visit and I decided to pen down my thoughts as a mother once again and this time round, a premmie.

I don’t think I find it a very tiring thing to run in and out of the hospital. Nor will I tell my mum now I finally understand how tough it has been. On the contuary, I feel determined with the arrival of Seth, that God seem to have placed me on a task to bring up these 2 children to grow up well in the way God wants.

So whatever comes in life, I pray that our little family of 4 braves through in God’s light.

Here’s Seth by the way…

Change.

Its funny how fast kids grow up and how things seem to differ from how you imagine your motherhood will be like. I had always imagine that I would be just like my mother, send the kids to school, go to work, fetch the kids, cook for them and tuck them to bed.

Reality you might ask? I have long working hours, still manage to send my girl to school, cannot make it in time to pick her up, do not have enough time to cook for her and to add on to that, we have officially hired our first helper in the family.

But the funny thing is, 2 days with my new helper, I am pretty glad to have her around. Lil kat likes her, she helps out in the house chores, restores a little sanity to the family. I guess in life, you cant always want things your way. Especially when it comes to parenting, when things normally does not get to the way you want it and you are forced to constantly bend. For the first time in life, I actually find that being forced to change might not be such a bad thing after all.

PDs or kids clinic in the east area

Lil Kat had a small glitch of fever yesterday and it reminded me of the many times that daddy Kat and I had to rush home to pick Kat up and while in the cab, frantically trying to look for a doctor that was open that day.

Funny it seems but Kat always manages to find times when all the pds are not opened to get sick. So I thought it would be nice to dedicate a post to all the pds near my area that I have tried or tried to search for. Just in case anyone reading needs a reference.

1) The Kids Clinic (tel: 6881 1711)

Opening hours : Mon & Wed 9am – 3pm, 7pm – 9pm; Tue, Thurs, Fri & Sat 9am – 3pm ; Sun &PH closed

Panic Directions by Mummy and Daddy Kat: Ground floor of Rivervale Mall, corner shop lot.

This has got to be one of the most crowded clinics I have ever been to. It is also where Kat had her first checkup. We had no clue which pd to go to so Dr Lilian was one of those that my Gynae had recommended us that was also near our home.

We like Dr Lilian a lot because of how meticulous she is to kat and of course the sentimental value as well. But on the flip side, her clinic is absolutely packed every day. It is almost impossible to call in to ask for an appointment.

We still always try to get her when things get a little out of hand as we find that for little kids, “doc hopping” is not such a good thing as it’s better to have your kids monitored by one person so that they know what is wrong with them easily.

There is also Dr Allyson in the same clinic that you can look for.

2) Pasir Ris Baby & Child Clinic (tel: 6581 0032)

Opening Hours Mon to Fri 845am – 1130am, 645pm – 830pm (except wed night); Sat 845am – 1130am; Sun & PH closed

Panic Directions by Mummy and Daddy Kat: 2nd Floor, up the escalator and turn right. Its beside another General Practioner.

We came across this one when Dr Lilian from Kid’s Clinic happen to be closed. Kat had gotten chicken pox and we were frantically trying to find a clinic. It was a long long wait that day but the good thing is, it is not because it is packed with appointments. You can always get a queue number if you go there before 8pm. Dr Sim was very clear in explaining how everything went and we were pretty thankful that Kat was ok with him tooJ We still go to him whenever Kat is sick.

The plus side would be that Dr Sim is pretty reasonably priced. So if you are looking for a PD, I will definitely recommend him.

3) Kinder Clinic at Parkway East (tel: 6446 7100) http://www.kinderclinic.com.sg/Kinder_Clinic/Home.html

We came here with Kat because both Dr Sim at Elias and Dr Lilian at Sengkang was not available. Kat caught hand foot mouth (HFMD) straight after chicken pox. Just when you thought it couldn’t have gotten worst. It was very very packed when we were here and Kat was the last one in queue. But well, when you are desperate, its better to have one option than to have none. So keep this in your list as well.

4) Thomson 24 Hour Family Clinic

Panic Directions by Mummy and Daddy Kat: Beside the souvenir shop, register there

If all PDs happen to be closed, we normally bring Kat back to Thomson. Even though they are not PDs and just General Practioners, daddy Kat and I seem to feel better bringing Kat back to somewhere where there are records of her birth.

Lastly, I would like to end this post to say that, getting sick is part and parcel of growing up. Having said that, as a mum of my little 1 year old, it is difficult to get a hang of the whole chaos when your kid gets sick. Nevertheless, don’t panic because your little one looks for you to depend on the most when they are sick. 🙂 cheers to all brave mummies + daddies out there!

WTA Finals in Singapore! Woo Hoo!

WTA Finals in Singapore!Cool Bananas!:D

Yea….Daddy Kat and I love to watch tennis…and F1 of course. Having both of these events in Singapore is an awesome deal for us! For our darling Kat, she is way too young to join us for the match so we decided to bring her to the stadium this weekend to check out on the “fan zone”. Something new for the kid, other than the standard shopping mall and playground weekends. Its not a big space that we expected but if you happen to drop by to check out the new Kallang Wave mall, do go over and try to serve top speed at the starhub booth.:) (*ps. It will probably take you just 15-20mins to finish walking this area)

If you dont manage to do it this time, you still have next four years to go:D cant wait for kat to grow up to enjoy the little kid stuff they have here for kids.:)

Kat Loves Gerber

You’ve got to love Gerber. This long standing baby food brand was what I as a baby was eating when I was young and proud to say, also Kat’s favorites. Of course this brand had grown much from the time when I was a baby. Back then, the choice was only the small bottles of apple, pear and bananas. Now, you can choose from a whole variety of food. From the classic pureed fruit, to yogurt melts, whole meal food like pumpkin XXX, and I have got to mention every baby’s favorites, (otherwise known as “stars” or “mum mum” by kat).

I have to mention this little episode that happened to Kat recently which had gotten me to write this article. Kat was never a fussy eater since young and by the time she was weaning, I was a proud mummy that can tell everyone that Kat can finish her porridge in 15mins. No fuss. Our nightmare came 1 month ago when Kat had turned 14 months. She started to hate dinner>.< She would cry and whine when we fed her. I tried different types of porridge, cooking her pasta, making teddy shapes out of egg, you name it, and I’ve tried it. Kat would only take milk and went on 4-5 days without a proper meal.

You guessed it right, Gerber saved the day. It was more of like a last resort thing. So I dropped by the grocers and got a few bottles of the different full meals for her to try. Kat had rarely eaten bottled food and I was having my doubts on it as well. When the little spoon when into the whining mouth of the tantrum baby, she gave a weird look and ate half bottle of it! WOO HOO! Kat is still on bottled gerber for dinner. It has been 2 weeks since she started. Thou I am not really sure how long this will last, I am keeping my fingered crossed and also thankful that I had Gerber to save the day.

Like Mother Like Daughter

We have all agreed in unison that Kat looks exactly like her dad but we never realized that this little fella had inherited a little of my character as well. Kids all have funny stories that their mummy tell them when they grow older. Mine has to be the coolest one you have ever heard…

I grew up with a working family, so just like Kat, I started school at a pretty young age. At 2, I was due to start my first day at nursery and being a worried mum, my mummy had stayed behind to spy on me through the window. A little boy had came to snatch my toy and with a swift motion, I slapped the boy and started crying, screaming to the teacher that the boy had snatched my toy. Of course, the boy was bawling away as well. But my mum told me that she left immediately after seeing this and that other kid’s parents should be more worried. This story went on and on for years and now Kat has caught up with my legacy.

Guess what Kat did? I came home yesterday from work and daddy immediately asked me in an excited tone: “guess what your daughter did in school? A baby stuffed his finger into Kat’s mouth and she bit him and smiled!” That’s my daughter all right….but I do hope that little baby that got bitten didn’t had too much of a shock..

We’re going to the zoo zoo zoo…..

Yea! We finally brought Kat to the zoo….where she finally got to take a look at how a real lion looks like:) technically, she wasn’t as excited as we imagine her to be….I guess the lion didn’t really looked like the one in the book and the book didn’t mentioned that the sheep smelled bad. It took her almost half the trip before she started to get excited. But on the whole, it was a really mission accomplishing trip for daddy and mummy:)

Kat got to touch some ouh-ouhs(dogs) at the kids animal show, played in the water theme park for kids (definitely a highlight for her, she loved it), see the tall giraffe, piggyback by daddy, and be amused by the number of people flocking at the sight of a tiger being fed. Definitely something new for her!
